Endorsed by the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO

Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO — American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations

I'm proud to have the endorsement of the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO, a historic organization representing electricians, plumbers, teachers, nurses, and many others.

Before working people organized, a steel worker in this country put in twelve hours a day, seven days a week. Every other week he worked a twenty-four hour shift straight through.

Nobody handed us the eight-hour day. Nobody handed us the weekend, or Sunday at home with our families, or the idea that a worker comes home with all ten fingers. Organized labor stood up and took it, and we all benefit today.

But there is still work to be done. Many Louisianans are struggling to get by as a result of poor decisions and oversight by our government. Normal people are nickel and dimed until we have nothing left to give, while corporations rake in record profits.

As a consultant to the Commission, I've seen that waste firsthand. Monopoly utility companies are literally writing the rules to benefit them and clueless Commissioners, funded by those same utility companies, rubber stamp those rules without changing a word.

AI and data centers have the potential to throw fuel on that fire. We need to ensure that we are not backstopping trillion dollar companies' investments while they retain the right to walk away.
